B.C. Ferries is advising customers that the Horseshoe Bay - Departure Bay route will be extremely busy on Thursday, June 28 and Friday June 29 ahead of the Canada Day long weekend.

The company had planned to add a third vessel, the Coastal Inspiration, to the route last weekend but repairs to its propeller hub have delayed the vessel's return to service.

Coastal Inspiration was supposed to be in service on June 30 but the ferry operator says the vessel will now return to service on Monday, July 2 in a press release.

B.C. Ferries has added an extra 12:30 a.m. sailing from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver  on June 28 and June 29 with reservations available on for those sailings. The company has added other sailings on the Vancouver Island - Metro Vancouver routes for the long weekend.

Customers without a vehicle reservation are advised to travel as a foot passenger, take public transit or have a family member drop them off at the ferry terminal as parking lots are expected to reach capacity early in the weekend.

Passengers can travel earlier in the day as sailings before 9 a.m. are less busy although Saturday morning on June 30 is expected to be busy. Sunday, July 1 is expected to be the least busiest day.
