If you were walking around Mt Pleasant this week you might have noticed some interesting posters.

"Dale Day" was promoted on telephone poles around the neighbourhood, and directly to friends of the hosts, and it took place last night.

The backyard bash was put on by Jesse Lebourdais and his partner Denise Cymbalist to celebrate their rescue dog, Dale.

Jesse tells us that Dale lived on the streets of Southern California for the first six months of his life, and was rescued from a high-kill shelter in LA.

A fostering company called Big and Small Rescue out of Chilliwack rescued the cute Chihuahua cross, Denise and Jesse adopted him soon after.

When they got him Dale had kennel cough and pneumonia and, as Jesse describes him, was "small and frail". At first they weren't sure if he was going to make it but he actually made a quick recovery and has been enjoying his life in Vancouver ever since.

So they decided to throw him a party to celebrate a year in the city.

Jesse tells us "There are a lot of dogs in our neighbourhood and they all - mostly - get along great. So we had a little garden party to celebrate his one year of living with us, and to just verbalize how grateful we are for his company, and how remarkable the first year of life was".

About 10 dogs showed up, all from the neighbourhood.

Denise made dog cupcakes ("pupcakes" as advertised on the Dale Day poster) and about 10 dogs showed up.

Minnie (who is 18 years old), Bobby (who only has one eye) and a number of other local doggos attended.
