The BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) is warning the public that they may have been exposed to the measles from an infected individual.

The individual was travelling from India to Vancouver on June 23 on China Southern flight CZ 3028 from New Delhi to Guangzhou and flight CZ 377 from Guangzhou to Vancouver.

Travellers on either of those flights or who were passing through YVR airport on Saturday, June 23 may have been exposed and are being advised to check their immunization status.

Infants less than a year old or people that have never been immunized against measles are most at risk.

Symptoms of measles include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Runny nose
  • Red eyes
  • Rash that starts centrally including on the face, spreads to the limbs and lasts at least three days

The incubation period (time to develop symptoms after being exposed) for measles ranges from 7 to 21 days. If a traveller has been infected with measles from this event, symptoms would develop by about July 15.

The BCCDC has issued a measles alert through the Canadian Network for Public Health Intelligence to inform public health officials.

If you become ill with any of the above symptoms and suspect you have measles call your doctor.
