There are going to be corgi and wiener dog races in Vancouver this summer

The "dog days of summer" have really taken a hold at Hastings Racecourse and things are a little less Seabiscuit and a lot more dog biscuit. This summer they are bringing back the popular Wiener Dog Races in July and adding Corgi Races in August.

The Wiener Dog Races have been happening at Hastings for over a decade, and the event has now expanded to be a two-day affair.

Taking place the weekend of July 14 and 15, 2018, the Wiener Dog Races are all about cheering on the little daschunds on the track, and having lots of fun with live music, food trucks, and craft beer. Watch the pups compete between thoroughbred races and jockey for winning positions; the big final heat will happen on Sunday.

Hastings Racecourse has been hearing all sorts of requests to get other breeds out on the track, which is how they came to launch Bulldog Races this June. We've missed that action already, but then the racetrack has also arranged for cute corgis to hit the course. The Corgi Races happen on Sunday, August 12. Post time for all the dog racing days is 1:50 pm.

Oh, and an important PS to the dog lovers coming to see the wiener dogs and corgis make a run for it: The only doggos allowed at Hastings are the ones registered to race that day, so leave your own four-legged friend at home while you're off to the races.
