Do you have a great shot of local wildlife to share?

The BC SPCA is now accepting entries for its annual Wildlife-in-Focus photography contest.

Photos can be submitted online for a chance to win prizes from Lens & Shutter, LUSH, NatureKids BC and Outdoor Photography Canada. There is a $5 entry fee, all photos must be taken within B.C. and photos of animals in zoos or rehabilitation facilities do not count.

“With the range of wildlife living in this province, combined with amazing backdrops, the possibilities are endless. From a seal “playing” air guitar to a majestic grizzly bear staring off into the distance, each year our entrants set the bar very high,” says BC SPCA research coordinator Erin Ryan in a press release.

Prizes will be awarded for the top three photos in each of the two categories: Wild Settings and Backyard Habitats. There is also a donate-to-vote People’s Choice Award that will receive a prize.

All proceeds from the donate-to-vote option will go to support local injured and orphaned wildlife being cared for at the BC SPCA Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre (Wild ARC).

The 52 photos with the most votes, including the People’s Choice Award winner, will be featured on a deck of playing cards.

Photographers must be at least 14 years old to enter and the contest closes on September 15.
