The City of Vancouver is inviting the public to submit ideas for designs they would like to see appear on the ground in public spaces when it rains.

The winning designs will be painted on the concrete using rain paint, which can only be seen when the concrete becomes wet and lasts for about three months.

The designs will appear at three locations celebrating a different theme:

  • Helena Gutteridge Plaza - Public Space
  • 63rd and Yukon- Green Infrastructure
  • Olympic Village – Water Quality

Submissions can take the form of drawings, poems, games --anything that can provide inspiration for a rain paint stencil, according to a press release.

Designer Jeff Kulak will choose the winning submissions in partnership with the City of Vancouver's artist-in-residence Germaine Koh. Kulak will design the final rain paint stencils based on the winning ideas.

The contest closes on August 17 and rain paint designs will be appear in public spaces starting this fall.
