As we REPORTED yesterday, a campfire ban was being put into place for the Coastal Region. It was implemented today at noon.

All open fires will be prohibited in the Coastal Region except for the fog zone (West Coast of Vancouver Island) and Haida Gwaii.

Fires of all types will be prohibited along with certain devices such as tiki torches, fireworks, sky lanterns, exploding targets, and burning barrels.

CSA-rated camp stoves will be permitted, as will portable campfire apparatus that burn propane or charcoal, as long as the flame does not exceed 15cm.

If you decide to have a campfire you’ll likely be issued a “Failure to comply with fire restriction” ticket for $1,150.

And that's not per fire; it's per person in proximity of that fire. Let’s say ten fools decide that $115 each is a good deal to be able to pay to have a fire, the total ticket price would actually be $11,500. $1,150 each.

If you're ever not sure if there's a ban on in the region you're in, check THIS PAGE.

As I wrote in EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CAMPFIRE BANS IN BC, the ban could be lifted at any point in time, if we get a period of sustained rain between now and the end of the summer.
