The black bear that was sighted in Belcarra Regional Park appears to have left the area.

White Pine Beach was closed earlier this month after a bear was spotted on the beach prompting Metro Vancouver to close concessions and ban the public from bringing food into the park.

Metro Vancouver is now allowing visitors to bring food into the park and has reopened concessions but is reminding people not to leave food unattended.

B.C. conservation officers attempted to live trap the bear near White Pine Beach but have removed the trap because there have been no sightings by visitors or park staff, says Sgt. Todd Hunter.

Hunter says it's likely the young male bear was habituated to the area due to people leaving out food and they will continue to monitor the situation closely.
