Catching a few full moons and more at Wreck Beach isn't anything new, but over the weekend there was an attempt to smash the Guinness World Record for group skinny dipping, all done in the name of preservation.
The Wreck Beach Preservation Society organized Sunday's full monty go at global glory.
The goal was to break the record of 2,505 buck naked bodies hitting the waters for a classic skinny dip. That record was set just this June in Ireland, as 2,505 women participated in a "Strip and Dip" on Meaghermore beach in Wicklow.
Sadly, our nearest nudes didn't turn out in droves. There were about 700 to 800 participants at Wreck Beach for Sunday's attempt, reports Global News.
Taking part in the skinny dip was free, but a duo of donors pledged a combined $10 per naked body at the event, with the funds raised going to support the work of the Wreck Beach Preservation Society, who work to keep the beach in its natural state.
The group has done a skinny dip gathering and group photo in years past; they turn the photo into postcards and posters used as further fundraising and promo materials. Issues the group has worked on include the pipeline, safe access to the beach, as well as a host of proposed development projects that they believe would mar the natural beauty of the popular clothing-optional space.
