A GoFundMe raising money for vet bills for dog that was stabbed in Kitsilano has raised over $5,000 in one day.

The account was set up by the Adriana Van Leeuwen, coworker, friend and roommate to the dog's owner Rose Steinmeier.

Steinmeier was out walking her dog on Sunday morning when a man in his 20s approached bleeding from a wound in his chest and began stabbing the woman's dog -- a 10 year old golden retriever -rottweiler mix named Copper.

Vancouver police subdued the man, who had stabbed another man in his 20s on West 13th near Arbutus, with a bean-bag gun and arrested him. Copper was rushed to an emergency animal hospital for treatment.

In a post on the page, Van Leeuwan says Copper is looking really good -- his swelling is subsiding and the bruising is not spreading.

"A million thanks to the dozens of people who have donated already; Rose and I are both overwhelmed by and profoundly grateful for the outpouring of sympathy and support she and Copper have received since yesterday morning," she says.

If extra money is raised that Copper doesn't need the plan is to donate it to the Vancouver’s BC SPCA Animal Hospital.
