Ridge Meadows RCMP caught two 22-year-old men from Burnaby speeding on the Lougheed Highway in high-end sports cars this morning.

Police were performing routine traffic enforcement in the 25800 block of Lougheed Highway when they noticed two cars, a Blue 2017 Lamborghini, Aventador and a Black 2016 McLaren, 675H travelling eastbound at a high rate of speed.

Laser equipment clocked both cars as travelling at 138 km/p/hr in a marked 80 km/p/hr zone.

Police pulled over the drivers and impounded their cars for a minimum of seven days. The drivers were fined $368 each and received three points on their driving records.

The driver of the Black McLaren is an 'N' driver and police say both men have been served with excessive speeding infractions and fines in the past.

Both men were headed for the Mission Raceway for a planned private track event when they were stopped and police learned that one of the cars was equipped with a radar detector.

"This stretch of Lougheed Highway is our number one problem area when it comes to excessive speed," says Traffic Sergeant Bruce McCowan in a release. "No matter the time of year this specific area is plagued with unsafe speeds, 24/7, regardless of the road and weather conditions. We have seen too many tragic outcomes where all the driver needed to do was just slow down."

RCMP are forwarding an incident report to the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles for further review.
