BC Conservation Officers in the Sea to Sky region near Squamish were busy this weekend issuing tickets to none-too-bright campers who either figured it was worth it to have campfires during a ban or didn't know there was a ban in the region.

They made out a total of 13 violation tickets for illegal campfires over the BC Day long weekend, resulting in $14,950 in fines.

An "illegal" campfire would be any right now, as there's currently a ban in place.

If you decide to spark one up and there’s during a ban it’s likely you’ll be issued a “Failure to comply with fire restriction” ticket for $1,150.

In our guide to everything you need to know about campfire bans in B.C. we outlined how these $14,950 in tickets might not have been for 13 individual fires, but for 13 fools standing around fires.

Some campers have assumed that the $1,150 ticket is per fire, but it is in fact for each person in proximity to a fire.

We've reached out to the BC Conservation Officer Service to find out how many individual fires there were which resulted in the 13 violation tickets and will update this story when we hear back.

Always check HERE to see if there are burning restrictions in place. It could save each person in your party $1,150, and it could also save millions in resources to battle another wildfire, and tons of trees.
