North Vancouver RCMP are investigating the theft of a high-end camera used by professionals in the film industry.

According to police, a man was browsing around the Keslow Camera Vancouver store in the 1200 block of East Keith Road on July 31 when he allegedly tucked the camera under his jacket and left.

The stolen Arri Alexa Mini Camera, including various accessories, has a replacement value of more than $70,000, according to police.

Because of the highly specialized nature of the store, which mostly serves the film industry, police said it’s likely the suspect knew what he was looking for.

“When you’re stealing a camera like that, it’s not like you’re shoplifting at London Drugs or another store where you just grab something off the shelf,” said Cpl. Richard De Jong, North Vancouver RCMP spokesman. “If he’s in the film business, perhaps somebody will recognize him.”
