An air quality advisory has been issued for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley due to high concentrations of fine particulate matter from wildfire smoke.

Clean marine air cleared much of the smoke on Saturday but winds changed to a northwest flow blowing smoke back into the region on Sunday evening, according to Metro Vancouver.

Forest fire smoke can irritate the respiratory system can cause systemic inflammation.

Seniors, infants, and those with diabetes, lung or heart disease are advised to limit time outdoors, stay hydrated because it helps the body deal with inflammation and avoid physical activity until the smoke clears.

There are about 46 wildfires of note that are currently active in B.C., according to the BC Wildfire Service.
