Two girls snuck out of the house with a hand-drawn map on Monday night for an adventure that ended safely thanks to an observant bus driver.

The girls, ages 10 and 12, were having a sleepover but left the house and boarded a bus in their pajamas just before midnight.

Transit Police Sergeant Clint Hampton says their parents called the police after noticing the girls weren't at home and had started to gather neighbours together to search for them.

Bus driver Ed Boleak thought something didn't seem right, contacted Transit Police and officers arrived to take the kids home to their parents.

“I’m glad to hear that it’s all good, but this is something we all would have done,” says Boleak.

Transit Police are encouraging the public to report things that seem out of place or are cause for concern by calling 604.515.8300 or text 87.77.77.

Hampton adds that parents need to be aware of the risks and make sure they are teaching their kids to be safe when taking transit.
