"Our victim services are doing all they can to help the family through this heart-breaking time," said Coquitlam RCMP spokesperson Corp. Michael McLaughlin in a press release. "Buntzen Lake is a great place to cool off in hot weather, but it has steep drop-offs just metres form the shoreline. We encourage everyone to use their best judgment and strongly assess their swimming level whenever they enter the water."

It's the second drowning at Buntzen Lake this summer. A 19-year-old man from Surrey disappeared while swimming in the lake July 19. His body was found the next day in about 40 metres of water about 100 meters from the shore.
