Police are reminding North Vancouver residents to lock their doors and windows after thieves climbed scaffolding to break into two apartments.

Residents reported that someone had broken into their second and third floor apartments through patio doors stealing wallets and purses.

"These are crimes of opportunity, with residents leaving their patio doors open – allowing easy access for criminals to enter their property," says Cpl. Richard De Jong of the North Vancouver RCMP.

Police are reminding residents to be extra vigilant if there is scaffolding set up around their building -- making sure all doors and windows are secured.

All residents are encouraged to report suspicious persons and incidents by calling the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311.
