The Vancouver Canadians have cancelled the fireworks extravaganza planned for Saturday night's game at Nat Bailey Stadium due to the risk they present in taking firefighting resources away from wildfires.

"The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club respects the efforts that are taking place throughout the province and within the Pacific Northwest and wouldn't want to potentially pull any firefighter resources away from their important work protecting our local communities," said Canadians General Manager JC Fraser.

"Our fans understand that above and beyond a great night at the ballpark, our commitment has to remain to our community as a whole and this was simply the right thing to do."

The postgame fireworks extravaganzas are a much-loved staple of summer games, and if you've ever been to one you likely left with Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline in your head and a smile on your face.

One more remains on this year's schedule and it's unclear if it will also be cancelled. Stay tuned.
