Roots + Fruits, the plant-based cafe on Powell Street near Railtown, has announced they are closing immediately.
Known for their inventive, casual food offerings focused on grab-and-go vegan fare, like their Carrot "Lox" on toast, Roots + Fruits was a project a couple of years in the works--however they were open not quite a year.

Roots + Fruits says "an extreme rental increase" is forcing their hand in closing down at 848 Powell Street. The cafe says they are searching for a different location to set up shop.
Their last day is Friday, August 17.
Here's the farewell message Roots + Fruits posted Thursday to Instagram:
"We are very sad to say that we will be closing our doors at 848 Powell st after Friday Aug 17. An extreme rental increase has forced us to search for a different location to move to.
We’d like to thank every one of our customers that has supported us in our year at this location.
We’ve made many new friends who have made coming to work everyday a pleasure and we’ve watched our business and brand grow strong because of you.
Please join us today and Friday and also continue to follow along as we search for our new location. ? our team at Roots+Fruits."
