Vancouverites will be pleased to hear that the Park Board has extended the swimming season at Kits and New Brighton pools.

New Brighton Pool in East Vancouver will be open an extra five days through September 9 and Kits Pool will remain open through September 23.

The city's other outdoor pools, Maple Grove and Second Beach, will be open an extra day, closing after September 4.

“We responded to the hot, dry summer by extending pool and water park hours and are now adding more swimming days to outdoor pools on both the east and west sides of the city,” says Vancouver Park Board Chair Stuart Mackinnon in a news release.

Water parks will be open until September 30 for those looking for another way to cool off outside.

Kits, New Brighton and Second Beach outdoor pools have welcomed 272,642 visitors since opening on the May long weekend, which is a 10 per cent increase over 2017.

The Park Board has approved the location of a new full-sized outdoor pool in the Marpole neighbourhood with funding for the project including in its 2018 capital budget.
