Vancouver Park Board commissioner Erin Shum announces independent run for council

She said in a press release there is a need to “move away from partisan disputes and focus on delivering results for Vancouverites.”

Her campaign, themed “Building a Vancouver for Families,” includes a plan for “complete communities” with a focus on child care, ensuring renewed attention to the needs of seniors and the importance of safe streets.

“Now more than ever, families need a voice at the Council table,” she said. “Every generation needs complete communities that have something for everybody. That means child care, seniors care, safe streets, and fostering an environment where local small business can thrive and bring vibrancy to our neighbourhoods.”

Shum, who has a three-month-old daughter Abigail, was first elected to park board with the NPA in 2014. She split from the party in December 2016 and has been serving as an independent ever since.
