Do you have an old handbag sitting in your closet that you no longer need?

Dress for Success Vancouver has put a call out asking people to donate their gently used handbags to women looking for work.

Drop off your old handbag from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at their office on 675 West Hastings Street or call to arrange a time that would be more convenient.

Dress for Success Vancouver accepts women's business attire including shoes, clothes, accessories and handbags to help up to 15 women a day -- reaching about 2,000 per year.

The women that use their services include new Canadians, single mothers, students graduating from college and women struggling with loss of employment, career transition or divorce. The charity provides them with styling consultants, career specialists and mentors.

Women that land a job can bring in their letter of employment and get two more outfits to help them get started.

The charity's marketing and communications manager Natasha Irvine says aside from handbags they are most in need of plus-sized clothing donations and recently ran a campaign about body positivity to help all women feel confident when going in for a job interview.

Irvine says if people are unsure about whether their donation would be appropriate they should think about whether they would be comfortable sending their friends to a job interview wearing that outfit.
