Head down to the last Steveston Farmers & Artisans Market (SFAM) of the season to enjoy free corn and cake on Sunday, September 16.

"We're showing our appreciation for our vendors, customers that come into the market and all of the residents in the area," says market coordinator Karen Krumenacker.

Volunteers will be giving out 500 tickets, one cob per person, starting at 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot off of Easthope Avenue at 4320 Moncton Street.

Richmond Country Farms is providing the corn for the event and organizers are looking for more volunteers to help husk, cook and serve the cobs.

SFAM is celebrating its 10th anniversary and was launched by the Richmond Agricultural and Industrial Society (RAIS) in May, 2008. Proceeds from vendor fees go towards projects and activities at the Steveston Community Centre.

SFAM committee chair Al Sakai says the market symbolizes the history of Richmond as a farming and fishing community that continues to connect local farmers with residents.

Sakai says there will also be free cake, performances from local musicians and crafts for the kids at the market, which runs until 3:30 p.m.
