Vancouver police find bag of stolen wigs at Downtown Eastside hotel

Vancouver police have recovered several wigs in the Downtown Eastside that are linked to a heartless crime last week that saw the theft of more than 100 wigs destined for cancer patients.

Police got a call Thursday evening noting that a bag of wigs was found in a hotel hallway in the Downtown Eastside, though no numbers were provided, nor have any arrests been made.

“The person who located the bag of wigs immediately linked them to the media coverage about the theft and called 9-1-1,” says VPD Constable Jason Doucette.

“Although we’ve recovered a portion of the wigs, the investigation remains a priority. We would like to get the remainder of the property back and make an arrest in this case.”

The wigs were once the property of Eva and Company Wigs at 950 West Broadway. Roughly 150 wigs were stolen in the mid-morning hours of Sept. 7. Many of the stolen wigs were destined for cancer patients at BC Children’s Hospital.

Anyone with information about the suspect, or the location of the rest of the stolen wigs, is asked to call the VPD’s Property Crime investigators at 604-717-0610 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
