Richmond RCMP chased a couple of break-and-enter suspects on foot through Steveston Tuesday, finally arresting one at the dyke.
Cpl. Dennis Hwang, media relations officer, said in a release that police responded to a 911 call around noon about a break-and-enter in progress at a home in the 3000 block of Pleasant Street.

The homeowner, who had returned when their alarm system was triggered, saw two people climbing out of a ground floor window before running away. The owner chased after them, all the while relaying information to 911.
Patrol officers and police dogs descended on the area, trying to track and flush out the suspects.
One suspect, a 16-year-old boy from Surrey, led police to 6th Avenue and Georgia Street before ducking through a townhome complex and beyond.
Hwang called it a “complex chase” similar to a “cat and mouse game of hide and seek.”
Police managed to catch the boy at the dyke. They arrested him, and found he was carrying a “large amount” of cash, including foreign currency, as well as a change of clothes.
“Our investigators are trying to determine whether any other local break-ins can be connected to our suspect and this search will be expanded to other municipalities outside of Richmond,” Hwang said.
The second suspect is still at large, and police describe him as black and in his late teens or early twenties. He was wearing a blue sweater and khaki pants at the time.
