While there are a number of things to do locally, it can be hard to think of where to go if you're looking to travel out of town at the last minute.

Luckily, we've compiled a handy list of some magical destinations to visit that won't require a great deal of planning.

Thanksgiving Long Weekend Getaways 

Bowen Island

Only a short ferry ride from Vancouver, Bowen Island is an extremely accessible getaway. You can get there a short, 20 minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver, or you can take a 45 minute water taxi from Granville Island. Either way, you aren't looking at much time commuting. Further, they have a plethora of adorable Bed and Breakfasts to enjoy, as well as a number of quaint suites. You can rent scooters, go hiking, kayaking, eat delicious ice cream, and much more during your quaint escape.

Rowena's Inn on the River

Talk about cozy! Located in Harrison Hot Springs just west of Agassiz, this 160-acre waterfront estate is a secluded retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. What's more, Rowena's Inn on the River only takes between an hour and a half to under two hours to reach. As a result, it won't take much time away from your much need r' n r'. Furthermore, this charming accommodation offers everything from afternoon high tea to heated-slate floors and deep-soaker jacuzzi tubs for two.

Leavenworth, Washington

This picturesque village is located south of the border; however, Leavenworth will make you feel as if you are in Germany. Indeed, there are beautiful alpine rooftops as well as restaurants serving German beer and food line Front Street.  While takes about 4 hours to reach from Vancouver,you'll feel completed refreshed from its delightful atmosphere.

Galiano Island

Not only is Galiano Island one of the most beautiful places in B.C., but it is also quite close to Vancouver. While it does take a couple hours to get to and includes a ferry ride, it offers a serene escape. From its sandstone formations that create breathtaking, natural galleries to observe the shoreline from, to its lush, ancient forests, it is truly the "gem of the Gulf Islands." In addition, visitors may enjoy boating, hiking, kayaking, mopeding, festivals and whale watching.

Osoyoos

Osoyoos can be extremely hot in the summer. In fact, some people find that the Okanagan heat is unbearable during the hotter months. With that in mind, fall is a nice change of pace for those who prefer less extreme weather. In addition, there are a number of lovely resorts to visit in the area, as well as some world-class wineries. It will take roughly four hours to get, however, so you'll want to leave first thing in the morning to make the most of your time!
