A ticket has been issued to the elderly driver of a white Acura SUV that launched through a set of bushes and narrowly missed hitting a pedestrian, Richmond RCMP say.

Cpl. Dennis Hwang, media relations officer, said the 80-year-old driver “allegedly lost control of her vehicle” shortly after making a U-turn in the Yaohan Centre parking lot and collided with a grey Audi SUV Thursday morning.

“The Acura then proceeded off-road over a curb and through a hedge,” Hwang added.

The octogenarian Richmond driver was sober at the time, RCMP say, and driver error is believed to be the primary factor in the collision.

Hwang said no injuries were reported, but that both cars were damaged.

Dash-cam footage from a car parked behind the hedge shows the white SUV bursting through the bushes and going airborne while a pedestrian who was walking nearby sprints out of the way.

What appears to be leaked security footage from the mall shows the collision from above. The Acura collides with the grey Audi, before gaining speed and going through the bushes.
