This might come as a shock to some of you landlubbers, but B.C. Ferries is finally allowing debit cards on a few select vessels.
Yes, despite boasting such technological advances as arcade games, flat screen TVs, spotty wi-fi, germ-infested kids’ zones and the “Pacific Coast Buffet,” B.C. Ferries’ onboard amnesties have always been a strictly cash or credit operation.

But before you go all hog wild on the Queen of Nanaimo and clear out the gift shop of all its fleece vests and lavender-scented hand lotion, you should know that the onboard Interac machines are only available on the Spirit of British Columbia and “select” boats travelling between Victoria and Vancouver…on a trial basis.
Cuz why would you want to commit to such an unproven fad such as debit cards.
To make matters worse, there’s still no word from B.C. ferries about bringing back those sweet coin-operated massage chairs.
For shame.
