With Greyhound discontinuing a great deal of its service across Canada, a company called Poparide offers a viable alternative for people seeking an alternative form of transportation.

The company connects people who need rides with people that own cars and are traveling on the same routes. In other words, it is a carpooling service that is similar to Airbnb.

According to the rideshare app's website, the average number of people in a vehicle on the road is 1.6. What's more, it states that it costs approximately $9,000 a year to own and maintain a vehicle in Canada. As such, the rideshare benefits both those who are looking for a cheaper option to travel on as well as those who have extra seats and want to reduce the cost of their annual expenditure.

In addition, the service ensures that both parties are satisfied by setting up an online account.

"Passengers pay online in advance to ensure a reliable service. We send you a payout after a trip is complete," states Poparide.

The service already has 110,000 people signed up across Canada and has a great deal of positive feedback.

Popular routes and costs include Vancouver to Whistler for $15, Calgary to Edmonton for $25, and Montreal to Quebec City for $20.

The site offers comprehensive profiles that give you lots of information about who you're travelling with so that you feel safe at all times. What's more, the service reduces carbon emissions and promotes a greener environment.
