Safety tips for anyone heading out in Metro Vancouver on Halloween night

The spookiest night of the year is quickly approaching and ICBC is asking drivers to take caution on the roads this Halloween.

According to the provincial insurance corporation, last Halloween there were 950 crashes that resulted in 280 injuries in B.C. In the Lower Mainland alone, there were 600 crashes and 200 resulting injuries.

As a driver, ICBC recommends:

  • Stay below the speed limit
  • Scan the roadways as you drive
  • Don’t roll through stop signs
  • Have patience, and don’t pass a slow or stopped vehicle

For trick-or-treaters, ICBC suggests:

  • Make sure costumes aren’t too big to avoid tripping
  • Be bright
  • Create a safe route
  • Travel in groups
  • Follow the rules of the road, stay on sidewalks and use crosswalks

Crashes are recorded for the entire 24-hour period of Oct. 31, 2017.
