There has been plenty of activity taking place around the now closed Delta Town & Country Inn.

The hotel shut down almost a month ago and preparations appear underway for the building’s imminent demolition to make way for Gateway’s $70-million casino/hotel complex.

The B.C. Lottery Corporation told the Optimist this week it expects to make a final decision later this fall on the Delta Cascades Casino project.

It received final approval from Delta council this summer.

Approval from the lottery corporation appears to be a formality as it previously stated it remains supportive of Gateway's proposal, noting the concept is consistent with its vision for such a facility.

It’s expected that as soon as that BCLC final blessing is granted, the old hotel will immediately come down. The new complex is scheduled to open late in 2020.

The Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Ltd. project will include a gaming floor with 500 slots and 24 tables, meeting space, a 116-room hotel, Match Eatery & Public House, Atlas Steak + Fish as well as a buffet restaurant.
