A man is in hospital after being struck by a transit bus on Sunday while running in the RUNVAN half-marathon.

According to RCMP, he was struck at the 5700 of Southwest Marine Drive. He was admitted to the Vancouver General Hospital following the accident with non-life threatening injuries.

Vancouver Is Awesome spoke to Dawn Roberts, BC RCMP Director of Communications, who explained what took place that day.

"The race was in one lane running eastbound, while the traffic was kept in a second lane," stated Roberts. "The race started near UBC's East mall, and he ran into the traffic lane before he was hit."

While the runner is currently in hospital, RCMP haven't released any further details regarding his condition. Further, they have not stated what bus hit him during the race, as they are conducting an ongoing investigation.

Over 1,400 people ran in Sunday's half-marathon, and no one else was hurt during the event.
