The Vancouver Fire Department has just named the Vancouver Firefighter of the Year, which is the highest honour that may be bestowed on any firefighter in the city.

While he isn't known to grab the spotlight, City of Vancouver Firefighter Justin Mulcahy has dedicated countless hours of community service towards tackling Vancouver’s hunger problem.

Specifically, this local hero has dedicated his time toward helping the city's students. Justin has guided and grown the Vancouver Firefighter Charities SNACKS FOR KIDS Program. Shockingly, one in five students in the city live in poverty and face food shortages daily. This vital children's program provides over 300,000 healthy snacks for 2,000 vulnerable kids in over 40 Vancouver Schools.

Justin Mulcahy's tireless efforts, which continue long after his shift ends, are instrumental in the welfare of Vancouver's children.  It is for his selfless actions and dedicating his service to the City of Vancouver, that he is awarded this honour.
