The B.C. Lottery Corporation did the expected last week by announcing final approval for Cascades Casino Delta, a $70-million facility that will be constructed at the site of the former Delta Town & Country Inn at the junction of highways 17A and 99. City council already voted in favour of giving final Delta approval in the summer.

All that’s left now is approval by the Ministry of Transportation for site access before a building permit can be submitted to the city. The ministry had provided conditional approval but stated further review of detailed engineering drawings was still required.

In a letter last week to Transportation Minister Claire Trevena, Mayor George Harvie noted ministry approval is critical in moving forward with construction.

A report to council this week notes that once approval is received and a building permit issued, construction of the hotel/casino complex “could begin in early 2019 with current reports suggesting an opening sometime in 2020.”
