A relative found Elizabeth Poulin, 87, dead in her apartment near Kingsway and Kerr Street at around 8 a.m. on Saturday. The suspect, a 23-year-old Surrey man was arrested Monday in Surrey and remains in custody.

On Monday, media relations officer Sgt. Jason Robillard would not comment on if Poulin lived alone or if there were any signs of a break in. However, he did say that based on the evidence collected so far “investigators do not believe that the public is at risk.”

This is the 15th homicide of the year.

Police said the identity of the suspect cannot be released until charges are approved by Crown counsel.

Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area of Kingsway and Kerr Street from Friday evening to Saturday morning is asked to call detectives at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
