Beginning next year, residents of Metro Vancouver will notice that an increase on their natural gas bill.
Starting on January 1, 2019, they will see an overall annual increase on their natural gas bill. The increase applies to all B.C. residents living in the Mainland, Vancouver Island, Whistler, North and South Interior regions.
FortisBC announced that, "The overall change is due to an interim increase to the storage and transport charges and delivery charges."
The charge for Lower Mainland customers works out to a nine per cent increase on their annual bill, or roughly $68 based the average annual use.

In October, the company asked all natural gas customers in the province to turn down their thermostats as well as reduce use of all other natural gas appliances in order to conserve energy.
BC’s natural gas supply will be limited over the coming months, and therefore FortisBC is asking customers to focus on conservation measures to help ensure a sufficient supply of natural gas through this winter.
On December 7, the company tweeted an image of a sweater with the hashtag #ReduceYourUse, imploring residents to don a cozy sweater instead of cranking up the heat.
