Many residents of Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island, and the Sunshine Coast found themselves without power after violent winds ripped across southern British Columbia on Thursday, December 20.

In addition, a person was rescued on White Rock Pier after the storm cut the popular, 100-year-old structure in half on Thursday afternoon.

And while the storm cleared the following morning, many residents of the Lower Mainland are still without power. As of 7 am Friday there are 416 outages in the Lower Mainland and on the Sunshine Coast, affecting 58,317 customers. On Vancouver Island, about 90,000 customers are starting off Friday in the dark as well.

What’s more, wreckage from the storm may be seen across the Lower Mainland. A number of residents shared images of fallen trees, damaged roofs, broken fences, destroyed boats, and more.
