The pedestrian, a 39-year-old Vancouver man, died shortly after being taken to hospital.

Police said that information gathered so far indicates that a vehicle was heading east on Kingsway when it struck the man and then continued driving.

The driver and vehicle have not yet been identified but investigators believe the vehicle involved will have front-end damage, including a broken headlight.

Vancouver police are asking the driver, or anyone with information about this incident, to call the VPD’s collision investigation unit at 604-717-3012 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

UPDATE: Vancouver Police have identified the victim, and the driver has come forward. The vehicle involved has been seized by authorities.

“The 54-year-old driver in this case eventually did the right thing by coming forward,” says VPD Sergeant Jason Robillard in a media release. “He has been released pending further investigation. Charges will be determined once a thorough investigation has been completed.”
