Dine Out Vancouver Festival: Restaurants

Dine Out Vancouver will run January 18 to February 3, 2019–always a great time to kick those post-holidays blues out of the way, and get some great deals at local restaurants. Menus are priced at $15, $25, $35 and $45 per person plus beverages, taxes and gratuity. Lunches and brunches are also available at select restaurants, too.

There are 28 awesome food and drink events happening as part of the Dine Out Vancouver Festival, in addition to the terrific prix-fixe menus at local restaurants. These culinary events include everything from wine pairing dinners to dessert how-tos, along with things like vodka tastings, wine and beer tours, dim sum gatherings, coffee tours, and more.

Hot Chocolate Festival

The month-long event is undoubtedly the sweetest way to count down to Valentine’s Day, as restaurants, cafes, and treat shops all around town come up with original cocoa concoctions and specials to please your sweet tooth.

Le Tigre Truck Pop-Up “Parking” at Torafuku

When you run a successful restaurant and food truck, and your truck breaks down, what else is there to do but put your restaurant to work as a temporary lunch spot serving up your food truck eats. That’s exactly what’s happening right now as the Le Tigre food truck is using their sibling brick-and-mortar restaurant Torafuku as a “temporary parking” spot for a fun lunchtime pop-up. Order all your faves from the truck at the counter.

Disco Dumplings Happy Hour at Burdock & Co.

Disco Dumplings happy hour continues every Monday at 8 pm at this Main Street favourite. Throughout the evening, local DJs spin vinyls while an evolving menu showcases local beers and wines at a discounted price.

THIS MONTH'S EVENTS

La Poutine Week B.C.

The premise is pretty simple: Eat poutine during La Poutine Week and go online and vote for your favourites. And this glorious event celebrating Canada’s unofficial national drunk food takes place the first week of February each year. So far, confirmed participating restaurants in the Vancouver area include Fable Diner and Bells and Whistles in Vancouver, and The Canadian Brewhouse in Richmond.

Whisky Global

The 6th annual Whisky Classique, now called the Whisky Global, is where hundreds of fans of the spirit will gather to sip and mingle. Slip into the Grand Tasting Hall where many whisky vendors will be pouring their line-ups of whisky for guests to try, featuring whiskies from Scotland, Japan, the U.S., and more. Considered a premium event for the ultimate whisky lover, tickets always sell out to this popular annual dressed up evening of indulgence.

When: Saturday, Feb. 2 from 7-10 p.m.

Onesie Bar Crawl

Don your favourite onesie and join a troupe of onesie-clad party people on an epic onesie bar crawl through downtown Vancouver. Everyone meets up at Donellan’s Irish Pub, andfrom there, the organizers lead the group to various local haunts to enjoy an evening of super comfy fun.

When: Saturday, Feb. 2 from 4-10 p.m.; Check-in from 4-6 p.m.

Super Bowl Tailgate Extravaganza at Bells and Whistles

The most-watched live TV event in North America touches down at Bells and Whistles. Beginning with all the pre-game coverage that leads up to the 3:30 p.m. kickoff and including the halftime festivities, the big screens will give football fans a front-row seat for the full game experience with live audio broadcast throughout the restaurant. The brunch menu is on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the restaurant will feature a shareable Tailgate Platter starring stadium fare, along with specially priced buckets of drinks. Look for Happy Hour specials from 3 to 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. to midnight, too. Vin Van Sunday Roast Pop-Up

Get cozy at this Sunday evening pop-up wine and food event. Feast on a traditional Roast Dinner with ALL the trimmings (and yes that means Yorkshire puddings galore) along with a dessert and of course wine pairings. Served family style, this is a meal of good wine and great conversation.

When: Sunday, Feb. 3 from 6-9 p.m.

Science of Cocktails

The Science of Cocktails at the Telus World of Science offers a unique opportunity to see some of the industry’s most passionate mixologists work their alchemy on classic favourites as well as inspired new concoctions.

When: Thursday, Feb. 7  from 8 pm-midnight

Where: Science World – 1455 Quebec St., Vancouver

Amaro Amoré

Calling all cocktail fans. PICA has a new set of events you'll want to check out. Offered monthly, these classes will focus on a different spirit each session, recounting trivia and history on different ingredients and cocktails followed by a demonstration on building the classics with this spirit - all paired with bites created by PICA's culinary and pastry students. This month it's amaro, an Italian herbal liqueur whose name means bitter...a nice contrast for this month of hearts and love.

When: Thursday, Feb. 7 from 6-8 p.m.

Peruvian Basics 101 Cooking Class

Chef Shelome Bouvette of Chicha will demonstrate and teach you classic Peruvian favourites. Sip on Pisco Sours, and learn how to make Classico Pacific Ling Cod Ceviche, Dungeness Crab and Side Stripe Causa, Empanadas, and Picarones (donuts).

Branaire Ducru dinner at Origo Club

Richmond's Origo Club is hosting an exclusive wine dinner with Branaire Ducru this month. The evening is an amazing value at just $100 per person for a five-course dinner with five wine pairings. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the restaurant.

“The Winner’s Circle” Fundraiser

Fancy a fancy night out? Enjoy virtual horse racing and food and drink all in support of the Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House. Tickets include a chicken or vegetarian curry, plus a beer or signature cocktail, and entry into a draw for a wide array of door prizes. Bets, beers, and cocktails are $2 each, so bring your toonies.

Charleston Classic at Mamie Taylor's

Spend your evening sipping southern style cocktails, paired with classic southern dishes inspired by Charleston - a current world class food destination, and haven for great cocktails. There will be lots of bourbon and lots of good eats for this cocktail-pairing dinner.

Ocean Wise Chowder Chowdown

Taking place at the Aquarium – our Ocean Wise HQ here in Vancouver – this adults-only evening of food, drink, and fun is all about celebrating seafood chowder. Chefs from across the city and province come up with special chowders, served up with craft beer, and guests get to sip, spoon, and savour, and select their favourite soup.

When: Thursday, Feb. 21, from 7-10 p.m.

Where: Vancouver Aquarium – 845 Avison Way

Cost: $75; tickets available online

Hopwired 2019

This unique Vancouver festival mashes up the brews with the beans, via carefully curated collaborations that have been in the works since the glasses were packed up after last year’s event. Hopwired will feature an espresso bar, tasting panels, speakers, and food from Cartems and the Downlown Chicken Shack. Yep, that’s right, you get to pair your coffee, beer, and coffee-beer with donuts and fried chicken.

When: Feb. 23, 2019. Entry begins at 1 pm

Where: Croatian Cultural Centre – 3250 Commercial Dr., Vancouver

Cost: Tickets are $70 plus fees, and are available online.

Vancouver International Wine Festival 

Now in its 41st year, this premiere wine event offers the chance to taste more than 700 wines spanning 16 countries. For the first time this year, wines from Romania will be featured alongside those of Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, South Africa, Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Italy and Croatia. The festival focuses on a different region or country every year, and the featured region this time is California. Expect tasting rooms, seminars, panels, and lots of wine-focused events.

When: Feb. 23 to March 3

Where: Festival is headquartered at the Vancouver Convention Centre West

Cost: $40 to $450.

BC SPCA Treat Week

The BC SPCA asks animal lovers to provide delicious treats for a good cause during the BC SPCA’s Treat Week. This tasty week allows animal aficionados to provide delicious treats for family, friends and colleagues in exchange for donations that support the BC SPCA. Participants may take treats into work or school, or throw a party for family and friends. All the “dough” raised goes to help abandoned, neglected or abused animals in the BC SPCA’s care across the province.

When: Feb. 25 to March 3
