Vancouver ranks on list of most romantic cities in Canada

Amazon Canada has released its annual round-up of the most romantic cities in the country and a few Metro Vancouver cities made the cut.

Amazon Canada has released its annual round-up of the most romantic cities in the country and a few Metro Vancouver cities made the cut.

Amazon determined its tenth annual ranking by comparing sales data from January 1, 2018 to January 1, 2019 on a per capita basis in cities with more than 20,000 residents. Specifically, the retailer looked at purchases of romance novels (both print and Kindle editions), romantic comedies, relationship books, jewellery and sexual wellness products.

British Columbia had the highest number of cities on the list, with seven cities included in the ranking. What's more, Victoria claimed the top spot for the second consecutive year.

North Vancouver came fourth, and Kelowna came seventh. Courtenay came ninth, with Vancouver in fifteenth and Langley in sixteenth. Port Coquitlam made its first appearance on the list, placing twentieth.

The Amazon data also revealed that VictoriaLaSalle, and Fort McMurray made the top three most purchases in the jewellery category. Earrings were the most popular gift, and constituted a whopping 50 per cent of all jewellery purchases made across Canada.

The data also found that Pretty Woman, starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, was the best-selling romantic movie across the country for the second year in a row.
