For those hoping to snag a parking spot at YVR, the airport warns that some lots “are expected to reach capacity during this period.” Parking spots can be booked in advance, otherwise YVR recommends traveling by public transit on the Canada Line if possible.

Those using the Value Long Term Lot are reminded to “review the free Canada Line train schedule—departing every seven to 20 minutes between 5:10 am and 1:27 am.” Those arriving outside train service hours can make use of the free shuttle bus that runs outside of Templeton Station.

Check ahead for flight statuses

On Wednesday, Transport Minister Marc Garneau grounded all Boeing 737 Max 8 airplanes in Canada over safety concerns arising from the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines flight that killed all on board, including 18 Canadians.

WestJet, Air Canada and Sunwing Airlines all operate Boeing 737 Max 8 aircrafts out of YVR and, as a result, passengers flying with these airlines over the next couple of weeks are reminded to keep an eye on their flight status.

“While 168, or 93 per cent, of WestJet’s fleet are still operational, WestJet has temporarily grounded all 13 Boeing Max aircraft and is working through the resulting cancellations which will continue to affect guest travel,” said WestJet spokesperson Lauren Stewart in an emailed statement.

In a press release Wednesday, Air Canada said it was waiving cancellation and rebooking fees for affected passengers.

“We are working to rebook impacted customers as soon as possible but given the magnitude of our 737 Max operations which on average carry nine to 12 thousand customers per day, customers can expect delays in rebooking and in reaching Air Canada call centres and we appreciate our customers' patience,” the airline said.

All passengers traveling with these airlines are encouraged to check with the airline or with YVR before heading to the airport.
