Free pop-up weddings return to Vancouver's Robson Square for one day this spring

If you were hoping to tie the knot with your sweetie, but not drop a wad of cash, you might want to get on the list for the free wedding event taking place this weekend in Vancouver's Robson Square.

Spring is in the air, and so is love. And if you were hoping to tie the knot with your sweetie, but not drop a wad of cash, you might want to get on the list for the free wedding event taking place this weekend in Vancouver's Robson Square.

 Love In The Square/Facebook

Love in the Square is back for 2019, and will offer a day of public marriage ceremonies on Sunday, April 14.

Couples who want to tie the knot can expect to sign up upon arrival, wait for their turn, and be willing to have their photos taken. The event can provide witnesses; and while you can bring family and friends to watch the special occasion, they may be asked to move, though, because of space considerations.

Love In The Square provides free weddings for couples who are ready to take the plunge (and who have secured their marriage licence prior to the event). A minimum $20 donation is asked, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

What's the hitch for getting hitched at the event? All of the stipulations are spelled out for lovebirds in this FAQ published by Love In The Square. Organizers say they don't plan on running the event in 2020, so don't put this off if you want in on the freebie wedding action. In 2018, 144 couples took part in Love In The Square.
