PLAY Vancouver is an all ages, free event that offers a smorgasbord of fun games this Saturday in the heart of downtown Vancouver.
Hosted by Young Vancouver, the inclusive event aims to, "connect and energize the community in the the downtown core" through games and dancing.
The organizers are also building an epic, custom 9-hole mini golf course that will spell out the word Vancouver.
The fun-filled day will include:
- Six Oh Fore! Mini Golf
- Ping Pong with Frida & Frank
- Hexapong
- Giant Jenga
- Giant Scrabble
- a DSU Hoop Club Hula Hoop zone
- and more
The DSU Hoop Club believes that play time through flow arts increases self-esteem, enjoyment and overall life-satisfaction. As such, the club welcomes all skill levels to participate in some hip-shakin' fun in their dedicated zone.
The event is funded by the City of Vancouver through the Viva Vancouver program. The program is dedicated to testing new ideas in underused spaces and pilots new projects that encourage people to connect with each other in public spaces.
The organizers also note that the event is taking place on the unceded, occupied, ancestral and traditional homelands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
The event takes place this weekend on Saturday, April 13 at the Šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza.
