A dispute over a stolen parking spot in the Costco parking Sunday lot led to one woman brandishing a machete.

It was 1 p.m. at the Langford big box store on McCallum Road and one driver was about to pull into a space near the tire shop when she was cut off by another female driver who whipped into the space.

The two women started arguing over the parking stall when the driver who stole the space reached into her car and pulled out a machete, said West Shore RCMP spokeswoman Const. Nancy Saggar.

The woman brandished the machete in a threatening manner so the other woman backed away and called police.

“We have since identified the suspect but have not yet located her. We are asking the suspect to come forward and present herself to police,” Saggar said. “We know who you are, you know who you are, please turn yourself in. We would like to provide you with an opportunity to tell us what happened.”

Saggar said anyone involved in a road rage incident should not engage with the other party. People should find a safe spot to pull over and call 911 for help.

Anyone who witnessed the incident should call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
