The woman who brandished a machete in a Costco parking lot during a dispute over a stolen parking spot has called West Shore RCMP to tell her side of the story.

The woman called the detachment Tuesday night after West Shore RCMP asked the woman to give her side of the story. The woman agreed to meet with investigators but that meeting has not yet happened, said West Shore RCMP spokeswoman Const. Nancy Saggar.

Saggar said a full investigation must take place before deciding if the woman will face charges. Police also want to speak with anyone who witnessed the dispute.

The dispute happened at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Langford Costco on McCallum Road after the woman apparently cut off another driver and stole her parking space.

The two female drivers were arguing over the parking stall when the driver who stole the space reached into her car, pulled out a machete and brandished it in a threatening manner. The other woman backed away and called police.

West Shore RCMP identified the woman through photos of the vehicle’s licence plate.

Saggar said anyone involved in a road-rage incident should not engage with the other party. Instead, they should find a safe spot to pull over and call 911 for help.

Anyone who witnessed the incident can call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
