Climber falls to his death while on Stawamus Chief in Squamish

A rock climber has died after falling approximately 30 metres from the Stawamus Chief on June 22.

At around 1:45 p.m., Squamish RCMP were called, along with BC Ambulance Service and Squamish Search and Rescue, to the Grand Wall area.

The BC Coroners office confirmed they are investigating the death of a male in his 30s. Squamish RCMP are working to contact the man’s family, and have not released his name.

In a press release, Sgt. Sascha Banks of the Squamish RCMP said they have responded to incidents at this location several times in recent months.

"We believe this incident to be a terrible accident and our thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time,” Banks said.

"We do want to stress to those that visit our beautiful surroundings to be prepared, know your area, and please be safe in your adventures. But also know if you are hurt or lost we (Squamish Emergency Services/Squamish SAR) have an amazing cross-section of people who will do everything to find you and help you.”
