Lynn Phillips of Victoria was enjoying a girls’ weekend in the city when the collision happened on June 13 in Santa Monica, said friend Nanna Nielsen.

“It was crazy,” Nielsen said. “A person ran over her, then they panicked and ran over her again.”

Phillips suffered collapsed lungs, several broken ribs, a broken arm, a broken collar bone and internal breeding, and has been on a ventilator. Nielsen said she is grateful her friend didn’t suffer spinal or head injuries.

“I don’t use the word miracle that often,” Nielsen said. “Fingers crossed that she’ll be medevaced to a Victoria hospital sometime this week if everything goes well.”

Phillips’ mother, sister and brother-in-law have joined her in Los Angeles.

A fundraising page established to help with Phillips’ needs during her recovery describes her as “a vibrant, lovely, generous and kind soul.”

Phillips, who grew up in the Cowichan Valley, has travel insurance, but her supporters are concerned about limitations in the coverage.

The goal of the GoFundMe page is to raise $125,000. By Tuesday, they had raised over $46,000.

“Of course, the overall final needs may very much be over this goal simply because of all the unknown healthcare expenses & travel expenses,” the page says.
