Swimmer dies after being rescued by lifeguards from Vancouver pool

A swimmer died in hospital on Sunday, Aug.11 after being rescued by lifeguards at the Killarney Leisure Pool in Vancouver.

A swimmer died on Sunday, Aug.11 after being rescued by lifeguards at the Killarney Leisure Pool in Vancouver.

The Vancouver Park Board states that the incident took place at approximately 7:30 p.m., when lifeguards at the indoor pool rescued the swimmer. Following this, the swimmer was transported to hospital where they later died.

The Killarney Leisure Pool is located in the Killarney Community Centre, which is near Rupert and 49th Avenue.

"Our deepest thoughts and condolences are with the family of the victim," said the Park Board in an emailed statement.

"At this time we cannot provide any further details."

Killarney Leisure Pool opened in February 2006 and has a large water slide, steam room, whirlpool, lazy river and 15 and 25 meter lap pools.
