BIV Talks: Expert panel to guide discussion on women in business

V.I.A. sister publication Business In Vancouver is hosting one of their BIV Talks on money laundering next week on Tuesday, May 14.

V.I.A. sister publication Business In Vancouver is hosting one of their Business Excellence Series talks on women in business this September.

The event will offer an afternoon of stories, advice and networking, as well as expert advice from a panel of business leaders. They will address the challenges women face at work, and share strategies that help women win in the workplace.

The conversation will cover issues around equal pay, developing your voice, balancing work and family, and how successful women rise through the ranks. The discussion will deliver practical insights for women in any sector, at any stage of their careers.

Marni Johnson, Senior Vice President, HR and Corporate Affairs, BlueShore Financial, has over 25 years’ expertise in financial services,  and provides overall leadership and strategic direction in the areas of human resources and corporate affairs.

Ritu Mahil is partner in the Vancouver office of Lawson Lundell LLP. She practices in the firm’s Labour, Employment and Human Rights Group and is a former Vice Chair of the BC Labour Relations Board.

Jill Tipping is President & CEO of BC Tech, a non-profit dedicated to making BC the best place to grow and scale a tech company. BC Tech provides places and events for the community to come together, impactful programs that help companies grow, scale, export and adopt technology and information about the tech sector and the solutions required to ensure continued growth.

BIV's own multimedia reporter, Haley Woodin, will moderate the discussion. She co-hosts and co-produces BIV Today: the only daily podcast in B.C. dedicated to covering business. She appears weekly on Global News Morning and contributes regularly to BIV’s print and online publications. In 2018, Hayley spent a month reporting on trade opportunities and business issues in Southeast Asia as one of three journalists in Canada selected as Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada media fellows for 2017-2018.
