VANCOUVER — A hiking group has been reminded by rescue specialists to make sure everyone is accounted for on the trails of the North Shore mountains in Metro Vancouver after someone was nearly left behind during an outing on the weekend.

North Shore Rescue says a group of five people set off on a hike on Sunday but split into two groups, with a man and woman trailing in the slower group.

The search and rescue group says it received a call from a hiker who was not part of the group at about 7 p.m. reporting an injured woman was alone and unable to walk.

A team responded and encountered the rest of the hiking group at the start of the trail as they were preparing to leave the area, apparently unaware of the woman's injury or that she remained behind as darkness fell.

In a Facebook post, the search and rescue organization says its manager had "a long chat" with the entire group about ensuring everyone was safe.

North Shore Rescue thanked the Good Samaritan who called 911 and stayed with the woman until team members arrived to help her off the mountain.
